Behaviour Policy
Last updated: 23 December 2025
At The Art Loft, we aim to create a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where all children can enjoy being creative, feel respected, and express themselves with confidence. This Behaviour Policy outlines the expectations for children attending our sessions and how we support positive behaviour.
Our Approach
We believe that:
-
children learn best in calm, supportive environments
-
creativity thrives where children feel safe and respected
-
behaviour is often a form of communication
Our approach is positive, inclusive and non-punitive. We encourage kindness, curiosity and cooperation, and we work with children to understand boundaries in a gentle, age-appropriate way.
Expected Behaviour
We ask all children to:
-
treat others with kindness and respect
-
listen to and follow guidance from staff
-
take care of materials, equipment and the studio space
-
allow others to work without disruption
-
use words, not physical actions, to express feelings
We celebrate individuality and understand that children develop at different paces.
How We Support Positive Behaviour
Our educators:
-
set clear, consistent boundaries
-
use positive reinforcement and encouragement
-
offer calm reminders and redirection when needed
-
adapt activities to suit different needs and energy levels
-
provide breaks or quiet time where appropriate
We aim to support children in developing self-regulation, confidence and social awareness.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour that compromises safety or the wellbeing of others may include:
-
aggressive or violent behaviour
-
repeated disruption that affects the group
-
damage to property or materials
-
refusal to follow safety instructions
-
bullying, intimidation or discriminatory language
Such behaviour is not tolerated, but will always be handled calmly and fairly.
If Behaviour Becomes Challenging
If a child’s behaviour becomes disruptive or unsafe:
-
Staff will speak with the child calmly and explain expectations.
-
The child may be given time out from the activity to reset.
-
Parents/carers may be informed at collection or contacted if needed.
-
If behaviour continues, we may ask for early collection.
In rare cases of persistent or serious behaviour issues, we may review the child’s continued participation in sessions.
Removal from Sessions
-
The Art Loft reserves the right to remove a child from a session if their behaviour poses a risk to themselves, others or staff.
-
In cases of repeated incidents, we may cancel a child’s place in the programme.
-
Refunds are not offered where removal is due to behaviour.
Children with Additional Needs
We are committed to inclusion and welcome children with additional needs where we can reasonably support them.
-
Parents/carers must inform us of any SEN, medical, emotional or behavioural needs at booking.
-
We will work with families to put reasonable support strategies in place.
-
If we feel we cannot safely meet a child’s needs within a group setting, we will discuss this openly and sensitively with parents.
Partnership with Parents
Positive behaviour works best when staff and parents work together.
We ask parents/carers to:
-
support our expectations and boundaries
-
communicate openly about any concerns or changes
-
discuss behaviour concerns calmly and constructively
Safeguarding
This Behaviour Policy works alongside our:
-
