SEN & Inclusion Policy

Last updated: 23 December 2025

At The Art Loft, we believe every child deserves access to creative opportunities in an environment that feels safe, welcoming and supportive. We are committed to inclusion and aim to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), disabilities and additional needs wherever reasonably possible.

1. Our Inclusive Approach

We aim to:

  • welcome children of different abilities, backgrounds and needs

  • adapt activities where possible to support individual participation

  • promote confidence, creativity and self-expression

  • treat all children with dignity, respect and understanding

2. What SEN & Additional Needs May Include

This may include (but is not limited to):

  • autism spectrum conditions

  • ADHD

  • sensory processing differences

  • physical disabilities

  • learning difficulties

  • anxiety or emotional regulation challenges

  • medical conditions

3. Sharing Information with Us

Parents/carers are asked to:

  • share relevant information at the time of booking

  • inform us of any medical, emotional or behavioural needs

  • let us know about triggers, support strategies or adjustments that help

This allows us to support your child safely and positively.

4. How We Support Children with SEN

Where possible, we may:

  • adapt activities or materials

  • offer clear structure and visual guidance

  • provide quiet breaks or sensory adjustments

  • give additional reassurance or instruction

  • adjust expectations to suit individual needs

Support is always balanced with the needs and safety of the group.

5. Limits to Support

While we are inclusive, The Art Loft is a group-based creative studio, not a specialist SEN provision.

  • We do not offer 1:1 support.

  • We may not be able to meet all needs in a group setting.

  • If we feel a child’s needs cannot be safely or reasonably supported, we will discuss this openly and sensitively with parents.

Our priority is always the wellbeing of all children and staff.

6. Behaviour & SEN

We recognise that behaviour can be a form of communication.

  • Behaviour is managed with patience, understanding and consistency.

  • Our Behaviour Policy works alongside this SEN & Inclusion Policy.

  • Persistent or unsafe behaviour will be addressed in partnership with parents.

7. Partnership with Parents

We believe the best outcomes come from open communication.

We encourage parents to:

  • speak to us before booking if unsure

  • share updates or changes in needs

  • work collaboratively with us to support their child

8. Review of Policy

This policy is reviewed regularly and updated as needed.
